worst fashion spotted in the last century

A great fashion classic is the reinterpretation of the fashion trends of the past. How many times have designers looked back to offer re-editions of old fashion hits in their collections. Indeed, it is easy to rethink yesterday's style as stimulating, elegant and magical, but the reality is sometimes different. There have been sartorial choices of dubious taste, unsightly, uncomfortable, sometimes ridiculous. We try to put an order to the worst fashion trends of the last 100 years .

1910

Let's start from the beginning of the last century. In the 1910s skirts called hobble were in fashion . The word itself (meaning to limp) said a lot about the practicality of this garment: they were long to the ground and tight around the ankle. Women were forced to take steps of a few centimeters in order to walk.

1920

The 1920s are a very interesting decade from a fashion point of view. Among the beautiful flapper dresses, however, one of the most questionable fashion trends ever creeps in: cloche hats . Lowered to eye level, they all hurt.

1930

The first outings to the beach begin. For the woman, the height of chic was wearing a flounced taffeta dress as a costume . Very convenient for swimming in the sea.

1940

Again another slip on the theme of hats. In the 1940s mini bowler hats went crazy . In the day version, or with a veil, for the evening and important events.

1950

The 1950s saw the birth of flared skirts. Decorated with prints and embroidery, the poodle skirt becomes very famous and in demand : embellished with a poodle pattern. Also in the decade, other questionable fashion trends assert themselves. One of all: the white gloves . Short on the wrist, definitely impractical.

1960

Man arrives on the moon and fashion is fascinated by it. The Space Age look by Courrèges and Cardin becomes a must. Green light for vinyl, white plastic glasses, geometric cuts and lots of silver. During the same period, another questionable fashion trend also emerged: printed tights .

1970

Here come the seventies and reach the flower children. Trend that goes crazy, but very difficult to wear? The patchwork pattern . A trend that continues to claim victims today. Another must, the harem pants. Thanks to the fascination of the period for everything that comes from the East, these puffy pants are imposed, full at the waist and tight at the ankle.

1980

Extravagant, excessive, out of line, the Eighties gave rise to various fashion “horrors”. Thanks to the popularity of stars such as Jane Fonda and Christie Brinkley and to films such as Will Be Famous, leg warmers have become the showpiece in and out of the gym. Another slip, the shoulder pads dominate on jackets, sweaters, evening dresses… Denim was rampant, in all its forms. The worst? The acid wash, which made every outfit cheap.

Late 1990s

In those days it seemed like a good idea. Not today. The butterfly top  had quickly become the most requested item. Following, the chain belt, the popcorn effect top, the parachute pants.

2000

Difficult period for fashion that of the 2000s. Good taste seems to step aside to make room for trash. One trend above all: the very low waist . It was practically impossible to find trousers or skirts with a normal waist in stores. Even people of a certain age had to adapt to this very difficult trend to sustain. Another hit of the decade, the chenille suits. Colorful, depopulated from California to our latitudes.
